In early September, the Sony took advantage of the IFA 2013, technology fair in Berlin, to make big announcements. along with the X, the new top-of-the-line smartphone, the Japanese company has announced a new option for those who prioritize quality in photos taken with a smartphone: the cameras DSC-QX10 e DSC-QX100.
with them, the Sony creates a new market niche, that of compact cameras attachable to smartphones. It is a new and quite innovative concept. The models QX10 e QX100 are basically the cameras WX200 e RX100 II, respectively, redesigned without the screens and with the NFC e WiFi Direct. Both are compatible with Android, iOS and Kindle.
These new gadgets are not yet available in Spain, but they should arrive soon. However, the Techlifers managed to get their hands on a QX10. Check out our The hands-on method with first impressions.
First impressions
A QX10 draws a lot of attention. It has a different design than what we are used to for a camera, in addition to having a innovative of use. Smartphone connection can be made via NFC in just a few seconds and automatically. Or, for devices without NFC support, the WiFi connection can be manually configured, just like connecting a smartphone to a regular wireless network.
The application is the Play Memories, also used for the line of conventional cameras with WiFi from Sony. It has simple interface and only automatic shooting features. The connection has been stable, with only a few delays when using the zoom.
Photos are of a quality compatible with a mid-range compact camera. Sony, but there is no flash and it is still not possible to use the LED of the smartphone. In our initial tests, the battery of 630 mAh reached 90 photos at half capacity.

The initial impression of QX10 it is very good. The photographic experience is superior to smartphone cameras. THE Sony managed to impress us with an innovative concept and device with a compact, elegant and good quality design.
As it is the first generation, there are still aspects to improve, such as the inclusion of a flash or the use of the smartphone's LED, as well as the improvement of the application, which still has few resources. But QX10 is a very interesting alternative for those who liked the idea of Samsung S4 Zoom but was annoyed by the dimensions.
