    Microsoft works on ultra-fast charging battery

      Microsoft is increasingly investing in its Surface line, and the devices constantly receive news. According to a new patent registered, approved and published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), it highlights the development of "smart batteries for ultra-fast charging".

      The patent in question covers the battery for all devices, including notebooks and laptops, up to 2-in-1 models like the Surface Pro and Surface Go and even smartphones. The descriptions confirm that Figure 1 "illustrates an example of an operating environment where techniques for ultra-fast charging of a smart battery can be implemented." To top it off, the operating environment is detailed as "computing device", which is shown in three examples: "a smartphone 104, a tablet computing device 106 (with optional keyboard), and a laptop computer 108."

      As per the document, smart batteries work as follows: "the example described includes determining, by the battery management controller, a charging configuration to manage one or more smart battery modules."



      The patent was filed by Microsoft in February 2017 and published on August 23, 2018.
